In CNN Interview Michael Avenatti Asks 10 Times for Southern District to Indict Trump

‘Unless an indictment is issued, then the route is going to be one of impeachment’

Michael Avenatti returned to CNN Friday night to comment on a Wall Street Journal report that President Trump was more involved in the Michael Cohen payment to Stormy Daniels than he’s previously indicated.

Over the course of his appearance, Avenatti asked for the Southern District of New York to indict Trump 10 separate times.

“You know, I drafted an op-ed in The New York Times about five or six weeks ago,” Avenatti told Wolf Blitzer. “I argued then for an indictment of this president, an indictment of Donald Trump. And we are renewing that request today.”

When Blitzer said there was no legal establishment that suggested a president can be indicted, Avenatti disagreed: “I think a sitting president, this sitting president, can and should be indicted.”

Avenatti said the information contained in the Wall Street Journal article is enough to merit an indictment of Trump: “There is little question in light of the evidence that has been reported on that he conspired with Michael Cohen to cover up this payment, Donald Trump should be indicted.”

“He should be indicted,” Avenatti said at another point. “He should be indicted immediately. And if he has a constitutional challenge, he can take it up with the Supreme Court of the United States.”

The Stormy Daniels attorney said that if Trump is not indicted, he wil be impeached: “Unless an indictment is issued, then the route is going to be one of impeachment.”

He concluded his appearance expressing a hope that Trump will be indicted: “I hope that prosecutors with the Southern District and/or Bob Mueller, will issue an indictment against this president. Let’s test this issue at the highest levels as to whether a sitting president can be indicted.”
