So if you say you’re decent and then they act indecently towards you, and then you respond and they say, 'See, you’re a hypocrite.' So they weaponize your moral decency so they can act any way that they can, they can behave any way they want to behave without being checked. And then when you check them, they clutch their pearls. So part of what Democrats have to do is to figure out how to break this rhetorical bind because what — at the end of the day, and I’ll put this really quickly, Republicans can exercise power like they’re Machiavelli, and then when they get called out for doing so, then they want to act like victims. What we have to do is to figure out how to respond when someone pops you in the mouth. Right? We can’t cower. We can’t just simply hug them. We have to figure out how to defend ourselves and defend ourselves vigorously.”
