FAIRFAX: “I don’t know precisely where this is coming from. We have heard different things, but here’s the thing. Does anybody think it’s any coincidence that on the eve of potentially my being elevated that that’s when this uncorroborated smear comes out? Does anybody believe that’s a coincidence? I don’t think anybody believes that’s a coincidence, this is not the first time this was brought up. It was a year ago this was brought up, you know. And yet the Post investigated for three months, dropped the story, did not do it and they did not do it because it was uncorroborated. It’s uncorroborated because it’s not true. So it goes away for a year and then crops back up right at this moment. You don’t have to be cynical, you don’t have to understand politics to understand when someone is trying to manipulate a process to harm someone’s character without any basis whatsoever. And, again, I have lived my life in a way that I am proud of. I have put myself up for election. People in the commonwealth of Virginia multiple times. You never in the course of any campaign I have ever run had anything said like this about and again, I’m someone who grew up in a tough environment, northeast Washington, D.C. Because people invested in me, I went to Duke University, Columbia law school, I was in the law review. I was a federal prosecutor, I have been through two FBI background checks in my life. I got a top-secret security clearance, and I've been an attorney, federal prosecutor and now I’m a partner in a law firm and sitting as lieutenant governor — “
