After Eschewing Calls for Civility in Politics, Hillary Now Says It’s Time to Bring Country Together

‘We have to do everything that we can to bring our country together’

In London recently, Hillary Clinton said civility in politics can wait until Republicans are defeated and Democrats retake Congress.

Today, after a spate of mail bombings — none of which successfully detonated — Clinton says it’s time to bring America together.

“It is a troubling time, isn’t it?” Clinton said in a Coral Gables, Fla., address Wednesday. “And it is a time of deep divisions, and we have to do everything that we can to bring our country together. We also have to elect candidates who will try to do the same.

“As an American, I’m worried,” she continued. “It is actually for the same reasons. Partly why I am so great is because with no offense to anyone, but I have the most fabulous grandchildren in the entire world. But because I do now have have these precious people, I worry about the direction of our country, and I worry about what kind of world is going to be waiting for them when they are teenagers and young adults and beyond.”

Two weeks ago, Clinton said: “You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about. That’s why I believe if we are fortunate enough to win back the house and/or the Senate, that’s when civility can start again. But until then, the only thing that the Republicans seem to recognize and respect is strength.“
