Baier: You Can’t Watch the Testimony of the Jan 6th Hearing and Say It’s Not a Big Deal

‘If you are watching, you saw compelling, at times damning emotional testimony from these four officers’

EXCERPT:

BAIER: “I've watched every minute of this. And if you were watching, you saw compelling, at times damning, emotional testimony from these four officers who held the line to try to protect the Capitol and the lawmakers inside. For anybody who looked at that and looked at the videos and their testimony about that day and thought that it wasn’t violent, I think that was an eye-opener. We've obviously talked about January 6th a lot in this time since then, but putting it all together and seeing it again is jarring. And to listen to these officers say how they really fought to hold onto their lives, Officer Michael Fanone, who you’ve mentioned, saying that he was getting beaten and finally, when he thought it was almost coming to an end, that he was going to die, he yelled out 'I have kids!' to try to get some sympathy from the people who were beating him. He then went on to, in that opening statement, say how upset he was and how upset he was with the indifference of some lawmakers to that day or downplaying the significance of the day, at one point slamming his hand on a table and saying, 'This cannot stand!' I think that while Republicans politically are saying that this is a partisan effort and that they charge that it’s not going to get to the questions that they think are important about January 6th, why were the Capitol Police so ill-prepared for what happened that day, you cannot watch this testimony and say that it’s not a big deal.”
