Bill McGurn: ‘You Can’t Tell the Whole Economy from a Jobs Report’

‘I worry that the interest rates will still have to go a little higher to wring inflation out of the system’

EXCERPT:

MCGURN: “Yeah. I think the concerns are still there. Look, when I worked in the White House, we always greeted the jobs report with trepidation. And we tried to minimize it if it was bad and accentuate it if it was good, but you can’t tell, you know, the whole economy from a jobs report. I worry that the interest rates will still have to go a little higher to wring inflation out of the system. And who knows what happens then? I think we are putting off any negative effect for a couple of months. But that will be very bad for the president if it happened during the election.”
