Bloomberg: 'An Outright Disgrace' for NAACP To Oppose Big-Soda Ban (Capital New York)
Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he has a "soft spot" in his heart for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
But he's not at all impressed with the NAACP's and Hispanic Federation's decision to back a lawsuit seeking to stop the mayor's big-soda ban from going into effect March 12.
"How they can look themselves in a mirror knowing they are hurting deliberately the life expectancy and the quality of life for the people that they're supposed to serve?" asked the mayor during his regular Friday morning radio show.
Last year, the New York City Board of Health, which the mayor effectively controls, approved the administration's proposal to ban servings of sugary drinks larger than 16 ounces in venues regulated by the city, like movie theaters, restaurants and some bodegas.
