Charlie Hurt Rips Bernie Sanders: ‘There Is No Such Thing as Free College Tuition’

‘As a bumper sticker, it sounds like a good idea, I’d like free everything’

[Clip starts]

SANDERS: “When you talk about raising the minimum wage to 15 bucks an hour, when you’re talking about expanding health care to all people as a human right, when you talk about effectively taking on climate change, when you talk about making public colleges and universities tuition-free, these are not far-left ideas! These are common sense ideas that the majority of the American people support and we will fight to make sure that they are implemented.”

PERINO: “And joining me now, Charlie Hurt, Fox News contributor and ‘Washington Times’ opinion editor, and Harold Ford Jr., former Tennessee congressman and chairman of Rx Saver. Great to have you both. Now, Bernie Sanders got a lot of attention today, but somebody who didn’t get as much attention is congressman Vincente Gonzales, he’s a Democrat from south Texas and he sad, ‘The average white person may associate socialism with Nordic countries, but to Asian and Hispanic migrants it recalls despotic left-wing regimes.’ So there’s this fight going on, and Charlie, I have to imagine you are enjoying this immensely.”

HURT: “Indeed. And you know, the problem with what Bernie Sanders says there is it’s a complete lie. There is no such thing as free college tuition for people. Yeah, as a bumper sticker, you know, it sounds like a good idea, I’d like free everything. I want free ice cream, I want free college, I certainly want free tuition for all of my children. The problem is, there is no such thing as free tuition for anybody. Somebody will have to pay for it. Although the idea of taking all of America’s college professors and making them work for free or maybe making them work for bowls of soup and putting them in an institution, I think that would be kind of a fun thing to try. But it’s not going to happen. And the idea that he wants to protect working families by forcing working families to pay exorbitant tuition fees for other people’s families’ children to go to school, it’s nuts. It’s a complete lie.”

PERINO: “I knew you were having fun.”

HURT: “Yeah.”
