The Dallas Cowboys, in a show of solidarity with athletes kneeling during the national anthem, took a knee before their Monday Night Football game against the Arizona Cardinals.

The hometown crowd in Phoenix rained boos on the Cowboys, who came out to the middle of the field to collectively kneel.

Jerry Jones's daughter, Charlotte Jones Anderson, explained they were doing so "as a statement for equality and as a representation for unity."

The display came before the performance of the national anthem.

The Arizona Cardinals chose to interlock arms with members of the U.S. military during the anthem. According to ESPN, the Cardinals asked the Cowboys if they would like to do the same.

The Cowboys, according to ESPN's sideline reporter Lisa Salters, declined.
