De Blasio: If Trump Cuts off Our Funding for Our Sanctuary City, We’ll Sue Him

‘Existing law does not allow for funding cutoffs broad brush’
By Grabien Staff

EXCERPT:

DE BLASIO: "Oh, we’re ready to challenge for sure. If there is action taken under the executive order to take funding away from New York City, we’ll be in court an hour later to challenge it because we believe and my corporation counsel, Zach Carter, former U.S. Attorney, feels strongly. If you look at the executive order, it’s vague, there's many points in it that could contradict each other. There’s the point where they exempt law enforcement at the same time as the funding that would be cut off comes from Justice Department and Homeland Security would go to, obviously in our case, the NYPD. They say everything has to be done in accordance with existing law. Well, existing law does not allow for funding cutoffs broad brush. The Supreme Court decision in the Sebelius case 2012, Justice Roberts said you cannot hold a gun, quote/unquote, hold a gun to the head of states and cities and take away their funding across the board for other purposes. So, the executive order is vague, contradictory in many ways and something we feel we can fight."
