Hillary: Even if We Sold Every Asset, ‘We Still Wouldn’t Get Close’ to Paying off Debt

‘If we sold all of our aircraft carriers and the Statue of Liberty ... we still would not get close’

Hillary Clinton admitted Tuesday that America's national debt is so grave that even if the government sold off all of its assets, "we still would not get close" to being able to pay it off.

The comment came while attacking Trump for having previously suggested doing as such.

"Finally, the Trump campaign, if worse came to worse, we cancel off America’s assets," Clinton said during a Columbus, Ohio speech. "Really? Even if we sold all of our aircraft carriers and the Statue of Liberty, even if we let some billionaire turn Yosemite into a private country club, we still would not get close."

Clinton later said that the way to pay off our debt is through "small investments in our future."
