WASHINGTON — Actress Jane Fonda, along with Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, co-founders of Ben & Jerry's ice cream, led a climate action protest on Friday which shut down streets in Washington.
As protestors at the march, dubbed "Fire Drill Friday," passed a separate protest for DREAMers, Fonda, Cohen and Greenfield chanted, "No one is illegal." The immigrant rights protest was organized by United We Dream, which advocates for citizenship for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients.
"@FireDrillFriday stands in strong solidarity with our siblings marching in support of #DACA recipients and the undocumented community across the country. Immigrants are #HereToStay! #HomeIsHere," read a post on the official Fire Drill Friday Twitter account.
The protest marked Fonda's fifth demonstration on a Friday in the district but it did not result in an arrest despite activists blocking public streets. Celebrity guests like Ted Danson and Sam Waterston have been arrested at previous protests in Washington with Fonda, who has been arrested four times in Washington.
