EXCERPT:
JEAN-PIERRE: “So, number one, when it comes to the debt ceiling, that is something that Congress has done 78 times since 1960 and done it in a way that was in a bipartisan way. Because you know why, Ari? It is their constitutional duty to lift the debt ceiling. It is something that they are supposed to do. And Kevin McCarthy and other Republicans did it three times under the last president. So, there should be no politics. We should not put the faith and the credit of our country hostage. That’s not something we should be doing. Let’s remember who this is going to affect if they don’t do their jobs. If they don’t do their constitutional duty, it will affect our veterans, it's going to affect our seniors and taxpayers. That’s one part of it. Now, Ari, if they want to have a conversation on how to lower the deficit, which is what the President has done the first two years by $1.7 trillion, if they want to have that conversation, we are open to it. But by saying that you want to cut Social Security, by saying you want to cut Medicare, by holding those two things hostage because you want to basically give $3 trillion to the wealthy, the uber wealthy -- that’s what you want to do, you want to give tax relief to the uber wealthy? That’s not what the president is about.“
