Media, Dems: You Don’t Need a Quid Pro Quo When You Talk Like a ‘Mob Boss’ [Montage]

The new standard for impeachment has arrived

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) told reporters Wednesday that the transcript the White House released of President Trump’s phone call with the Ukrainian president was a “classic mafia-style shakedown.”

Within moments, Trump-as-a-mob boss became the talking point pundits couldn’t get enough of.

Over the proceeding 24 hours, the word “mafia” has been used 114 on the major news networks; the word “mob” has been used 109 times; “Tony Soprano” has been used another 6 times, and “mobster” another 6.

“People see this kind of stuff in movies, they see mob bosses doing it,” CNN’s Anderson Cooper said of the Trump transcript.

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough also tried to help the new talking point catch on, adding: “Donald Trump talks like a mobster … He gets the mob talk.”

“Donald Trump sought to run foreign policy like Tony Soprano ran his crime family,” MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace commented.
