MSNBC Contributor on Jemele Hill: ‘Black Women Are the Kryptonite’ to Trump Administration (Mediaite)

At the White House press briefing this afternoon, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders called for ESPN to fire SportsCenter anchor Jemele Hill for her calling President Donald Trump a “white supremacist.” This comes on the heels of conservative media figures unleashing on Hill over her inflammatory tweets about the president, tweets that led ESPN to issue a public statement reprimanding Hill.

During tonight’s broadcast of MSNBC’s All In, MSNBC contributor Jason Johnson stood up for Hill while simultaneously knocking the White House for taking aim at a private individual expressing her opinions. In doing so, he made an observation about the administration and how it has a tough time dealing with African-American women.

“From the White House standpoint, I’m not surprised,” Johnson told host Chris Hayes. “Donald Trump is a white supremacist sympathizer. We know that. We have seen that and black women are the kryptonite to this administration.”

He continued, “I don’t care if it’s April Ryan, or Susan Rice, or Maxine Waters. They are terrified of black women. Whenever a black woman says something about this administration, they’re quaking in their boots.”

The Root’s politics editor went on to ask where Hill lied regarding her comments about Trump as this has become a pretty common view in the wake of Charlottesville. He also took issue with ESPN for reprimanding Hill, saying the network may be trying to appease some of their audience without realizing other viewers will be offended by the treatment of Hill for speaking her mind.
