NYT’s Baker: Bill Shine Lacked Chemistry with Trump, Campaign Job a ‘Face-Saving Gesture’

‘I think there had been in recent weeks, signs of discomfort on his part, that there was a lack of chemistry with Bill Shine’

EXCERPT:

BAKER: "My guess is the president is not too worried about 'The New Yorker,' but -- and certainly not worried about being too close to Fox News. However, I think there had been in recent weeks, you know, signs of discomfort on his part, that there was a lack of chemistry with Bill Shine. You saw that Bill Shine wasn’t showing up for some of the major moments when a message chief would have been expected, for instance he wasn’t on the trip to Vietnam where the president just met with Kim Jong-Un, the north Korean dictator. And so I think the people saw the beginnings of sort of distancing there. And he’s got this campaign job now that he’ll go to, but that’s seen by some people close to the White House as kind of a face-saving gesture."
