Rep. Patrick Murphy, who is running for the Florida Senate seat currently held by Marco Rubio, is running as a small businessman who has a made a career as a CPA. The only problem? An explosive CBS Miami investigation has found both claims are completely false:

A CBS4 News investigation into Murphy’s history as both a CPA and a self-described small business owner, however, shows Murphy has in some cases exaggerated his experience and in other instances made claims that were misleading or outright false.

For instance, he has never worked a day in his life as a Certified Public Accountant.

And he was never a small business owner.

Murphy, apparently, wasn't aware of the report when he appeared on MSNBC Wednesday evening.

When Steve Kornacki asked about how he feels about Marco Rubio re-entering the race, Murphy emphasized his supposed experience as a CPA and small business owner.

Here's a transcript:

KORNACKI: "What does that say to you when it’s been known that Marco Rubio has missed fair number of Senate votes. Obviously well known he’s said hasn’t going to run for re-election. More voters in Florida say they would vote for him than you. What does that say?"
MURPHY: "There are two polls that showed us beating Marco Rubio. We already had a poll and it’s called an election. Marco Rubio lost by 20 points to Donald Trump. His own party rejected him much less the independents and the Democrats that are not going to support him. It’s pretty clear there’s a sharp contrast. I have to introduce myself to the state. I look forward to introducing myself making sure everyone knows I’m a small business guy. I’m a cpa. I want to solve problems. I like showing up to work, showing up to committee compared to Marco Rubio who hates the job and using this as a platform to run for a higher office. Floridians don’t want that, no American wants that. Employee told me for a year and a half they hated their job and would look for a new job, they don’t get the new job and come back to me and say, Patrick, I didn’t get that job. Can I really have it back? Of course not. No one will give them that job back. Floridians will see through that."
