Pete Buttigieg: I Really Do Feel in My Conversations with GOP a Shared Appetite To Serve the American People

‘Sometimes we didn’t agree on much but we agreed this is important and that’s a foundation to build on’

EXCERPT:

BUTTIGIEG: "Well, I really do feel in my conversations with Republicans a shared appetite to do things to serve the American people. The thing is, every Republican member of the Congress or the Senate, just like every Democratic member, is from somewhere. And where they are from, their constituents are telling them there’s holes in the road. This bridge needs work. I’m worried about even things we didn’t use to worry about like -- like electricity. We’ve got to do something. Whether it’s ports or airports where you live, whether you are concerned about trains and transit or just being able to drive. Everybody sees the need. So you -- you add that together with the fact that so many Republicans are on the record calling us — calling for us to do big things. I felt it in my confirmation hearing. A lot of members, we didn’t agree on everything, sometimes we didn’t agree on much but we agreed that this is important and that’s a foundation to build on."
