Ren McEachern: Calm and Controlled Scene Two Miles from Nancy Guthrie’s Home Could Be a ‘Huge Break’ in the Investigation

‘Things seem calm‘

RUSH EXCERPT:

MCEACHERN: “Thank you Jonathan. Number 1, it looks like the scene is well contained. Things seem calm. This is a very good scene. Is a former squad operator for the FBI, I can tell you that when you see this calmness, that is a good sign. When you see a lot of activity or people rushing around, that is more concerning. It sounds like two people were taken into custody, they complied, always a good outcome. And other work really begins when it comes to processing the scene. Are there other people in the house? And what key evidence? What are they collecting in there that could be critical? What are they going to do with the evidence? Where will that go for examination? Are there specialties that are required, again. Think of the digital evidence that may be required. The forensics, lifting prints, all the things we have to do. And that was probably happening, I’m guessing in the house. And where those people went, there is now a series of interviews that are going to take place to determine what is the connection with these people. And so you have sets of teams ready to go and obviously this is not a surprise. The investigation team, they are prepared for this, they have been going through questions and understand the connection to the case. A lot of moving parts. The FBI is very good at this, they do this all the time. Also working with local partners, this something that happens quite often every day in the United States with the bureau. Most important, it looks like it is a safe scene. So hopefully they are getting the answers they need but this is a critical time and a huge break. I think we have all been hoping for this huge next break, I think we have one here, fingers”
