BLITZER: "Sandy Hook in 2012, I was covering that. It is hard to believe, there were what? 20 children between ages of 6 and 7 who were gunned down. Six adults including school staff and faculty before the shooter, Adam Lanza, turned the gun on himself. What if anything has been done to deal with these kinds of mass shootings since then by the U.S. Congress?"
HIMES: "Well, the honest answer is not a damn thing. This institution is not going to move. Think about, as you said, 20 dead babies in Connecticut. Wasn't enough to move the heart of this place. We all learned of something called a bump stock after the Las Vegas shootings. This institution couldn't even muster the strength or the political will to push to move against bump stocks. This place is in the all this of the NRA. It is a very confusing thing. Is it bump stocks? Mental health? Universal background checks? In my opinion, any person with a heart and a soul should do something to prevent what happened today and what we will continue to live with until we decide to do something about it."
