Scientist Shuts Down CNN Attempt to Link Hurricane Harvey to Global Warming

‘This is not an uncommon occurrence’
By Grabien Staff

A climate scientist today shot down a CNN effort at linking Hurricane Harvey to global warming.

During an interview with the former director of the National Hurricane Center, William Read, CNN's John Berman asked whether climate change is at fault for Hurricane Harvey bringing so much rain to bear.

"Is there a 'why' to this?" Berman asked. "Why there is so much water associated with this storm? One thing we heard from scientists over the last 10 years is that climate change does impact the intensity of many of the storms the that we see."

Read, who has worked with the National Weather Service and the National Hurricane Center since 1977, said there's read to suspect a connection.

"I ... probably wouldn't attribute what we're looking at here," Read said. "This is not an uncommon occurrence to see storms grow and intensify rapidly in the western Gulf of Mexico."

"As we've been tracking them, that has occurred," he said.

Read instead explained that this storm will bring a lot of rain due to its forecasted "stationarity," where the storm is expected to  "come inland and not move."
