The FCC’s controversial vote on repealing net neutrality was abruptly halted Thursday after a security scare.
Before the vote took place, a security guard approached FCC Chairman Ajit Pai, handing him a note.
“On advice of security, we need to take a brief recess,” Pai announces after reading the notice.
Security guards could then be heard ordering everyone in the hearing room to leave everything where it is and not remove anything from the chamber. Police dogs, according to the Washington Post, then swept the room.
It’s unclear what caused the threat, but the vote is particularly controversial. Pro-net neutrality activists had arranged protests outside the FCC Thursday.
