Sen. Stabenow: ‘The Great Lakes Are Actually Warming Faster than the Oceans’ But the Inflation Act Will Stop It

‘For all of us that live in Michigan ... the provisions in this bill are going to make a real difference in cleaning up the atmosphere’

TRANSCRIPT:

STABENOW: "Hi. Why I am I standing by the water to talk about the Inflation Reduction Act? Well, because it has the largest investment in tapping the climate crisis that we’ve ever done as a country, reducing like 40 percent emissions over the next eight years. And why does that matter to our water? Because the Great Lakes are actually warming faster than the oceans right now, faster than the oceans, and Lake Superior is the one of the five fastest warming lakes in the world. We're going to lose cold water fishing. So for all of us that live in Michigan, who love our Great Lakes, who love her water, who care about our land, this is a huge investment, I was proud to lead, and the provisions in this bill will make a real difference in cleaning up the atmosphere and protecting our water. So, it’s great to celebrate what it's in the Inflation Reduction Act."
