You might think President Trump is the one the current impeachment effort is taking an emotional toll on, but actually it’s Democrats.
At least that’s what they keep telling us.
Since first announcing the “official” launch of their impeachment inquiry, Democrats have made sure to always mention how hard this is for them personally.
“This is a sad day, it’s a sad day because nobody comes to Congress to impeach a president of the United States,” the speaker of the House, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), told reporters when the impeachment effort first kicked off.
“This is a solemn day in the history of our country,” Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) mournfully told reporters that same day. “We take no joy in having to move down this road and proceed with the impeachment inquiry.”
This is something “none of us really look forward to,” Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) told MSNBC. “It’s nothing to be gleeful about.”
“Impeachment is not a remedy we take lightly or take happily,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) said on the Senate floor.
“This is a solemn moment,” Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) agreed. “This is not a celebratory moment. None of us came to Congress to impeach this president or any president.”
Even the media got in on the act. MSNBC’s Ari Melber repeatedly told his viewers that Democrats are taking “no joy” in trying to remove Trump from office.
