After Net Neutrality Warnings Fizzled, Dems Still Insisting They’re Needed to ‘Save’ Internet [Montage]

‘We are here to save the Internet’

Last year when the FCC ended the so-called Net Neutrality regulation the Obama Administration put into place, Democrats warned chaos would ensue.

Sen. Bernie Sanders warned the FCC repealing the regulation was “disastrous.”

“It will give huge advantages to big corporations over small businesses, big media companies over smaller media outlets,” he warned.

His colleague, Sen. Chuck Schumer, said repealing the regulation meant “the end of the free and open Internet.” Planned Parenthood even entered the fray, claiming the lack of Net Neutrality will mean the Internet becomes more expensive to access.

Liberal entertainers echoed these concerns. Comedy Central’s Trevor Noah said that without Net Neutrality, Americans will have to “sneak off Canada’s wifi.” His late night colleague, Jimmy Kimmel said Americans should sign up for ObamaCare before the cancellation of Net Neutrality wipes the site off the Internet.

It’s now been a little over a year, and the data show these concerns were misplaced. In fact, since Net Neutrality was repealed, Internet speeds have skyrocketed, increasing by 35.8 percent on average. America’s Internet speeds skyrocketed from the 12th fastest in the globe, to the 6th fastest.

But far from using this information to reconsider whether their proposition that government oversight of the Internet is necessary to ensure its smooth functioning, Democrats are now doubling down.

Today Democratic leaders announced a bill mandating a reimposition of Net Neutrality. Over the course of a 30 minute press conference, these elected leaders repeated over and over again their bill was going to “save” the Internet.

What are they saving the Internet from? That wasn’t explained.

But if you want to get an idea of why Democrats think this bill is so important, we compiled the montage above, which boils their press conference down to under 2 minutes.

Enjoy! (If you can access this via a Net Neutrality-free Internet.)
