Acting ICE Director Says Arrested Newark Mayor Brought a Bulldozer to the ICE Facility Last Week

LYONS: “My message to the mayor is, he said he didn’t want to protest yesterday. Then what about the several times during the week he showed up? That’s what people don’t know. He and his staff were out there this week. We’ve had to send people out there to break up protesters there. The mayor and those protesters brought a bulldozer last week — not only this time, but other times protesting. We’ve heard intelligence that they’re going to continue to protest. So he’s trying not to make a statement. It’s turning out to be a campaign ad and he’s putting folks at risk. It is wrong. And, you know, with the great support of Secretary Noem, with the great support of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, you know, the mayor was charged on the 8 USC 13. That was trespassing. We now have the support to go ahead and people that impede our mission, we are going to take action against them. And it’s really frustrating, the fact for him to say that he’s out there protesting when, in fact, he wasn’t, right? Officials had been in that jail last week. They found no issue with it. The congresswoman yesterday said they visited inside and that people were being treated fairly and humane. So I just don’t understand why you would do this.”
