OCACIO-CORTEZ: “In addition to that, you will see very often, you know, once every several years, there will be major legislation, whether it’s a trade agreement, a proposed trade agreement, sometimes you will hear, you know, during the last presidency, former President Trump talking about tariffs, all these kinds of things. And they often require, again, a lot of legwork and diplomacy that can lead up to moments of positive developments and policies between governments. And my hope here in this trip is that as someone who is the author of the Green New Deal and really hoping to make sure that we can facilitate global cooperation around climate change and reducing our carbon emissions, that we can figure out how we actually start really collaborating globally on drawing down our emissions and working together to meet a global challenge. In addition to that, there are also really important backdrops when it comes to human rights, particularly women’s rights and LGBT, trans rights and marriage equality across borders, as well as a couple of other things like energy sources, looking at how Japan is dealing and approaching nuclear energy. I am super excited about the bullet trains here, otherwise known as the Shinkansen system, and how we can bring high-speed rail and bullet trains to the United States."
