MAKKI: "Look, the Democrats toss around the word forgiveness like it's punishment if we make you pay back money that you chose to borrow. There are plenty of vocational schools and other types of technical colleges that will actually pay you to go into certain programs. And so, if people choose to advance their careers, and certainly, that’s what these programs have been around for five decades to be able to do, help people advance their economic opportunities. Those are the choices that people make. And for that, people should have to pay back their loans. We as taxpayers should not be on the hook because someone chose to borrow money and not pay it back because the government says, or the Democrats say you shouldn't have to. What a slap in the face to the people who have paid back their student loans."
