RHODES: "The the absolute unnecessary nature of this and the timing of this is, I think, one of the many things that really stands out to me this morning. I mean, as you said, there was no threat that was developing or imminent. There was a diplomatic process underway that was addressing the only threat that Donald Trump has really, truly highlighted as an interest of the United States, which is the nuclear program. That’s what he talked about in the State of the Union. This is the second time that Donald Trump has bombed Iran in the middle of negotiations to get a deal, and he pulled out of the original nuclear deal that was negotiated under Barack Obama. So all that suggests that Donald Trump wants this war. He owns this war, like this is his war. He’s had multiple off ramps, multiple opportunities to have diplomacy resolving the issue that is of most concern to the United States. And and again, it’s a complete betrayal of everything that he said to his his own supporters about not getting into forever wars, not getting into regime change wars. So to me, the scale and timing of this scale, this is clearly about regime change, timing, this did not need to happen."
