EXCERPT:

BIDEN: “I’ll tell you a true story. Barack became the de facto candidate in, I guess it was in the middle of August. And I’m riding home in the train as usual and I get a phone call. And it’s Barack, he said ‘I want to do a background check on you.’ I said ‘Barack, I don’t want to be vice president. I can help you much more as a senior senator.’ I was fairly successful. And he said ‘well, there’s only two of you’ — I think that’s what he said. And I said Barack — he said ‘well, there’s only you.’ And I said ‘Barack, I don’t want to be vice president. I can help you better —‘. So I go home, he said ‘do me a favor. When you get home tonight’ — he knew my family — ‘talk to your family, get back to me in 24, maximum 48 hours.’ I said ‘okay, Barack.’ So I called and said let’s get a family meeting in the back porch, we get a family meeting.”
