RICE: “Hi, everybody, and happy Pride Month. Welcome to the Virtual White House. I’m Ambassador Susan Rice, and I use the pronouns she, her and hers, and I have the great privilege of being President Biden’s domestic policy advisor. I’m super excited to be joined today by four phenomenal young people who are transgender activists from around the country. Today we will hear their stories. As President Biden has said, transgender youth are brave and they’re strong. Every young person deserved to be able to live freely as their authentic self and to be met with unconditional love and support. This is a time of both great hope and possibility in the transgender civil rights movement, with more and more young people able to come out as transgender, gender non-conforming or non-binary, and be loved and supported just as they are. But it’s also a challenging and worrying time. In the past few months, we have seen an unacceptable, horrific increase in legislation in states across the country that targets transgender young people just for being themselves. But like generations of transgender activists who fought to make our country a more fair and inclusive society, the young people with us today are leading the movement for full equality.”
