Gabbard: ‘The Libyan People Are Now Being Sold as Slaves in Open Markets’ Because We Removed Gaddafi

‘Terrorists are far stronger there now than ever before’

EXCERPT:

GABBARD: "Yeah, he does. Bashar al-Assad is a brutal dictator, there's no question about it, and a lot of people have suffered and our hearts go out to them in wanting to try to alleviate that suffering. As we here in the United States look at what role we have or what role we should take, we have to understand that our actions, our regime change war has not alleviated the suffering of the Syrian people. It has actually made it worse. We saw the same thing happen in Libya with Gaddafi, where our Government, the United States, went and waged this regime change war in the guise of humanitarianism, only to completely devastate Libya, toppling Gaddafi, making life war worse for the Libyan people to the point where now they are being sold as slaves in open markets, terrorists are far stronger there now than ever before. It's tough, because we want to be able to help people. We want to be able to alleviate their suffering, but we also have to be realistic and understand that most recently in the examples I gave, as well as throughout history, when the United States comes in and intervenes, launches these regime change wars, and topples these evil brutal dictators, it actually makes things worse for the people there and it costs trillions of taxpayer dollars, and it's counter to our security."
