Gov. Inslee Doesn’t Rule out States in United States Climate Alliance Becoming a Separate Nation

‘If we were a separate nation, and I’m not suggesting that at the moment, but if we were a separate nation, we would be the third largest economy in the world

Democrats looking to break up the union may have found an ideal 2020 candidate in Washington Governor Jay Inslee.

The declared 2020 Democratic candidate, who is running on a single issue of stopping the climate from changing, today floated the possibility of states that support the Paris Climate Accord from breaking apart and forming their own country.

The comments came during an interview with Vox’s Ezra Klein.

"I led the creation of the United States Climate Alliance that now has 21 states that are committed to meeting the Paris agreements,” Gov. Inslee said. “And we did this and for one reason: We wanted to show the rest of the world that there is intelligent life in the United States.”

“And we have succeeded because nobody really has followed Donald Trump,” he added. “By the way, this is a big deal, these 21 states. If we were a separate nation — and I’m not suggesting that at the moment — but if we were a separate nation we would be the third largest economy in the world."

While Gov. Inslee said he’s not suggesting progressive states secede just yet, he didn’t rule out the possibility in the future.
