Andy Ngo, the Portland-based journalist known for his reporting on the left-wing group, Antifa, was physically assaulted at a protest today.
Ngo is currently hospitalized following the attack. [Update: Ngo’s lawyer, Harmeet Dhillon, reports he’s suffered brain bleeding as a result of the attack and remains hospitalized.]
Ngo posted a message Friday saying he was concerned for his own safety after discovering plans singling him out for violent assault:
Antifa activists made good on their threat. Ngo was beaten up and his camera equipment stolen. He posted this video shortly after the attack:
Here’s video from a reporter at The Oregonian who caught an earlier attack on Ngo:
Ngo was also hit with several milkshakes:
Here are some of Ngo’s earlier posts from the event:
Ngo — who is gay and comes from a family of Cambodian immigrants — would presumably qualify as the kind of minority leftist activists purport to be working on behalf of. Instead Ngo has come under repeated attack from Antifa (the group claims its name stands for “Anti-Fascism”), as the group is actively opposed to media scrutiny into its (often violent) tactics.
