Kimmel Pleads with Michelle Obama: ‘We Need You’ to Save Us from ‘Lex Luthor’

In the interview, the former First Lady also said she was ‘shocked’ to discover she had to pay for her own groceries

Jimmy Kimmel, who notoriously turned his show into a platform to agitate against Republicans trying to roll back ObamaCare, pleaded with Michelle Obama Thursday night to return to politics and “save” America from “Lex Luthor.”

“You see how much we miss you?” Kimmel told Obama as she entered to applause. “I mean, we really — where did you go?”

“We’re here,” Obama replied. “We’re just, you know, we’re in another house.”

To which Kimmel responded: “We need you back in the old house.”

He then followed up with a direct plea for the former First Lady to enter the political fray.

“Can I tell you how we feel?” Kimmel began. “We feel like — do you remember the first Superman movie, Christopher Reeves, when he gave up his powers to save Lois Lane’s life and then he was powerless and then he got beat up in a diner and he had to get his powers back to come save us from Lex Luthor? That’s what we need from you and your husband.”

“Well, there’s this thing called the Constitution,” Obama responded.

Obama told Kimmel that people approach her “all the time” about running for office, but insisted it’s something she’s not interested in.

The erstwhile First Lady also told Kimmel it was “shocking” to discover the Obamas had to pay for their own groceries while living in the White House.

“Yeah, but it’s a little shocking because nobody really tells you this stuff and then they let you get whatever you want, like, if you say you want some exotic fruit, ‘yes, ma’am, we’ll get that right away,’ and then you get the bill for a peach and it’s like, that was a $500 peach,” Obama said. “You know? I would tell Barack, Barack, do not express pleasure for anything until — unless I know how much it costs.”
