Sen. Rick Scott: ‘We Have the Votes’ for The SAVE Act, But We Need to Get Rid of the Filibuster

‘The Democrats are all in lockstep’

EXCERPT:

SCOTT: "Well, we have the votes, you know, we have the votes for voter ID, we have votes for you have to be an American to register to vote, but it's going to take either getting rid of the filibuster or saying we're going to talk until we're done talking. The filibuster was to stop debate. You still didn’t have to have 60 votes to pass a bill. So we have a choice: You either get rid of the filibuster because Democrats are abusing it, or say to ourselves, 'We are going to stay on the bill until the Democrats are tired of talking and we're going to pass it. That's how the Civil Rights Act was passed in the 1960s. So, that's our choices. I mean, it's a simple set. Now, we can break it down into smaller bites and try that, we can try to get something passed with reconciliation — very difficult with the existing parliamentarian — but the American public wants this, the president-wants this, so we’ve got to figure out how to get it done. We can’t take 'no' for an answer."
