EXCERPT:
REPORTER: “We talk about trans in sports as it's just been a lightning rod issue in recent years, and oftentimes people might think of a sport like racing or a sport like swimming, and then here you are in a combat sport. And for those out there who think that's a step too far, I can't support that, what do you say to people like that to help them understand your story and why you want to be a part of MMA?” MCLAUGHLIN: “I would ask them to sort of maybe beware of propaganda because when you look at the science behind it, there is no reason to exclude trans women. Like we're statistically underrepresented in sports, and there's become sort of a panicked narrative about us dominating everything, but there just are very few transgender athletes. If I want to fight another trans woman, I'm only the second ever openly trans MMA fighter.”
