World's only intact Roman shield and body armour unearthed on a battlefield where Germanic tribesmen wiped out three legions in AD9 to go on display at the British Museum

The shield, which is on its maiden transatlantic loan from Yale University in the US, was found in Syria in the 1930s. Although discovered in pieces, it was restored to its former glory by experts.
